If England go through they will play a team from Group A which includes Germany, Poland, Ecuador and Costa Rica - with Sven predicting the hosts will come through top of that table.

"I think it is important for us to win our Group so that we can avoid Germany in the next round and get through to the quarter finals," Eriksson said.

"We know that we will have a tough game then because when you get that far in the World Cup you are facing one of the best teams in the world and it is always going to be tough.

"But first we need to win the group and then take every game as it comes.

"I agree the draw could have be a lot worse for us. I said in interviews before the draw that we wanted to avoid Australia and Holland and we managed that," he added.

"We knew that we were going to get a very difficult team from the unseeded European pot because there were a lot of good teams in that.

"We have played Paraguay recently in a friendly and that went very well. I don't know a lot about Trinidad & Tobago, but of course we will go and see them. I do know that there are a lot of their players playing over here in England.

"With Sweden, we know that they have got some very good players, in particular their forwards. We have not beaten them for a long time and we have to sooner or later. Let's hope that it is in Germany next summer."

Meanwhile Sven also called on England fans to maintain their reputation at the tournament, calling for respect for the Germany as our hosts.

He said: "They can be the best fans in the world, they have shown great improvement in recent years but the one thing myself and the players would like is for them to stop chanting the song about ‘Ten German bombers’ which is very disrespectful to the host nation.

"It’s important we respect our hosts and build on the great work that has been done. If they can cut out this song it would be fantastic."

Sven's assistant Tord Grip, another Swede who will be coming up against his homeland again in a major tournament with England, admits the final group game will be something special for the management duo.

"Sweden again, it will be something very special," he added. "But overall it was a good group. Paraguay did very well in their qualification, so we will have to see about them.

"We will have to start watching a few Football League games because that is where Trinidad and Tobago have a lot of players playing.

"It depends on whether we win the group or finish top or second, but now we can go away and plan for the games."

The FA Chairman Geoff Thompson was also eager to avoid the hosts.

He said: "I think we have a very good chance but I just hope that Germany don't finish in a position that would mean us playing them in the Second Round.

Thompson added: "We'll do very well at the World Cup, I am sure of that. I think it is helpful that we play Sweden in the last match as we could almost have qualified by then.

"We know so much about them now and I think it will be great if both ourselves and Sweden can progress from the group."
