McClaren believes England can settle their nerves in their opening games against Paraguay and then Trinidad and Tobago before going head to head with Sweden.

He also admits he is looking forward to seeing Trinidad and Tobago striker Dwight Yorke, who he coached during his time with Manchester United.

He said: "When Sweden came out I thought Sven would have a wry smile on his face. We know all about Sweden and looking at the group, it is favourable.

"We are favourites but we have to make sure we get the results in the games. Sweden are a very good side with good players - they play like a British team.

"It is good we are playing Sweden last. As we know the first game has a lot of pressure and it takes a lot out of the players so if you get off to a good start in the first two games then you know what you need to do in the third.

"It will be interesting to play Trinidad and Tobago. Most of their squad play in the English league and it will also be nice to come up against my old mate, Dwight Yorke."
