Frank Lampard wants to build a consecutive games record for England - just like he has done for Chelsea.
Lampard has chalked up more than 160 Premiership games in a row for his club, beating the record set by fellow England star David James.
But now the midfielder is hoping to do the same with England - and play right up to the World Cup Final and beyond.
He said: "I don’t know if I can get that kind of consecutive games record for England as well for Chelsea but it would be great. I would like to play consistently and for a long time for my country but there’s always competition for places, possible injuries, some friendlies you might not be involved in and things like that.
"I’m happy with the record I’ve got so far but how long I can keep it going I don’t know. I will try and make it last a long time. If I can keep it going and play right the way through the World Cup and reach the final. I’d be very happy to do that obviously. And then I can think about the qualifiers for 2008."
However, Lampard, who has played the last six England games after missing the tour of the USA, has a long way to go before he overhauls Billy Wright's record of 70 consecutive caps.
Lampard's amazing record is a credit to his fitness and dedication. But despite playing in more than 60 matches already this year he is adamant he will be sharp and focused for the World Cup.
He said: "I’m pretty confident I can cope with the matches. I’m 27, I’m in the prime of my career. There will be times when I can rest, hopefully at the end of the season in that little gap before we meet up. That will do me."
