England team-mate Steven Gerrard scored the Reds' other goal, although it was the performance of Crouch that would have caught the eye of England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson.

"It's obviously nice to get the two goals," said Crouch. "I'm feeling confident. I always knew the goals would come but it was just a matter of time."

Crouch opened the scoring in the third minute, expertly volleying home Djibril's Cisse's lay-off into the far corner.

The Reds' second goal, in the 32nd minute, was vintage Gerrard. A quick break led to John Arne Riise galloping down the line before crossing to Gerrard on the edge of the box.

The England dynamo, who had timed his run to perfection, found an equally destructive finish when he powerfully volleyed in off the post.

With Liverpool dominating from first kick to last, Crouch, who has played four times for his country, capped an excellent display by slipping home his second after 58 minutes.
