Sven-Goran Eriksson Exclusive

The England Head Coach speaks exclusively to TheFA.com after the sensational win over Argentina in Geneva.

Sven-Goran Eriksson has urged the nation not to get carried away by the win over Argentina - despite his own delight with the victory.

The England Head Coach believes the 3-2 result over a team ranked second in the world will naturally boost confidence ahead of next summer's World Cup Finals.

But he knows that nothing can be taken for granted once the tournament in Germany gets underway.

"I am very happy, but we try to keep our feet on the ground," Sven told TheFA.com.

"This was not the World Cup, although the message we have given out is that we are one of the teams who can win it.

"For a long time I have said that we are one of five or six teams who can win the World Cup, but we also need some luck with injuries and things like that.

"The World Cup is still far away, but our performance was very good and we can take confidence from this game."

Sven revealed afterwards that his plans for the World Cup are to employ a holding midfielder against teams with dangerous playmakers like Argentina's Riquelme - with Ledley King handed that job in Geneva.

And he insists that the players will remember this famous victory when taking on similarly tough opponents in the tournament for real.

"Yes this was only a friendly, but neither England or Argentina treated it like a friendly and we were both desperate to win," he added.

"I think the the players will remember this because when you beat one of the best teams in the world you always remember it.

"And for a long time the players have believed they are one of the teams who can win the World Cup and you can feel that when we are together.

"Against Argentina I think the idea to start with Ledley King was good because Riquelme was very difficult to handle and you have to have a holding midfielder when you play against those type of teams.

"Joe Cole came on because he has been in good shape, which he showed, and Peter Crouch created a lot of problems for them as we tried to win it."
