Fresh from witnessing Charlton's latest Premier League victory, Tord Grip has revealed his admiration for two of the Londoners' in-form stars.
In a hectic day on Saturday, the England Coach watched Birmingham v Liverpool at St Andrews before heading to the Hawthorns to see Alan Curbishley's high-flying Charlton keep up their fine start to the season with a 2-1 victory.
Speaking from his Soho Square offices Tord admitted that he's been particularly impressed by two of Charlton's players.
Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy, who scored two goals on the day, was predictably in line for some praise from Grip.
"He’s been terrific," said Tord. "He did well even last season but this season of course they’re playing him alongside Smertin and one holding midfield player so he can go forward a little bit more and Murphy is very good.
"He has some sort of free role, is good on the ball and came in to the box and scored the second goal on Saturday and that was very nice."
Sven-Goran Eriksson will name his squad on Sunday evening for the two crucial World Cup qualifiers against Austria and Poland and, although England's midfield is packed with options, Tord says the management team will certainly be keeping an eye on him.
He said: "In midfield we have had some good players like Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Joe Cole and David Beckham.
"But if Murphy goes on playing like he has done so far we will watch him - and Sven is going to see his game on Saturday - we will see.
"He is doing so well for Charlton and of course if you pick a player from a team doing well then you know that you will have a confident player, that’s for sure."
Meanwhile, Murphy wasn’t the only Charlton player to catch Tord's eye.
He said: "Jerome Thomas on the left is an interesting player because he’s also a very tricky player - he’s quick and has good technique and likes to beat people. He’s doing very well too."
Sven is set to name his squad for the two qualifiers against Austria and Poland on Sunday 2 October.
