Sol Campbell has set his sights on a return to the England side after scoring twice for Arsenal against Everton on Monday.
Campbell, who has been on the sidelines with an ankle injury, showed he is back to his very best with two headed goals in a 2-0 victory for the Gunners.
Both goals came from Jose Antonio Reyes free-kicks and it is the first time since 1998 that Sol has scored twice in a match.
The central defender, starting his first Premiership match of the season, now hopes to challenge for the Three Lions squad to face Austria and Poland in crucial World Cup qualifiers next month.
He said: "I feel fantastic. It's been a long time but it's great to be back. I want to be back in the England squad now, that's one of my main goals.
"I have got to keep on going. Last season there was frustration but it's great getting back and being out there and happy, and getting stronger with my game.
"But for Arsenal, too, because that's my bread and butter. I just have to keep on going."
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger also believes Campbell will give Sven-Goran Eriksson a major selection dilemma ahead of next month's World Cup qualifiers.
Campbell has seen his England place go to Chelsea defender John Terry in his absence and Wenger said: "Sol has experience, pace and physical power, which nobody else has together. He has the ingredients which all make him certainly someone for Sven to consider and I am sure he will consider him.
"He has hunger and desire to come back firstly for us, but also for England. He is a proud man and when his pride is touched, his competitiveness becomes very sharp.
"It's a big season for every player aged between 28 and 32 as it's a World Cup year. They always think that if they miss this one, it could be dangerous for them."
