Sven-Goran Eriksson has hinted that Wayne Bridge and Ledley King could be in the starting line-up for England’s friendly against Argentina on Saturday.

The England Head Coach said it is not a “gamble” to pick Bridge, despite only just returning to fitness after a fractured ankle kept him sidelined for eight months.

Tottenham midfielder King could also be in the starting eleven after his impressive performance against Poland prompted praise from Sven.

He said: “I don’t think it is a gamble to pick Bridge, but I don’t think he will be able to play the whole 90 minutes. If he starts then he will be taken off at some point.

“Wayne is one of those players who I hope will come to the World Cup. He is a very good left back. Both him and Ashley Cole are fantastic and I might want to see him play tomorrow.

“If we choose to play with one more defensive midfielder again then it is a very good opportunity to do it.

“Ledley has done well and every game he has played there and whenever he has come on he has done excellently.

“The games do not come bigger than this one. Argentina are rated second in the World Rankings and they are a fantastic – it will be a good test for us.”

The match in Geneva kicks off at 4.45pm (5.45pm local time) and will be screened live on BBC1 and you can also listen to live commentary with TheFA.com.
