The Three Lions manager spoke out on Football Focus on Saturday afternoon, following the 1-0 defeat to Northern Ireland.

Eriksson has come under increased pressure from the media in the past few days, but has insisted he is not worried about reaching next summer's World Cup finals.

And he made it clear once again that he has no intention of stepping down as England manager.

Eriksson said: "When you lose games everything is bad, but I do not think the formation was a problem. In the first 35 minutes we were very good. After half-time we tried to change things but we lost the spirit and Northern Ireland beat us.

"I get it from everywhere, fair or not, and people say I should resign because we lost one qualification game.

"But I can motivate my players and I think we have shown it many times. Just because I'm not shouting, that has nothing to do with motivation or passion. I care about the team, I'm desperate when we are losing.

"I'm not shouting but of course I want England to play in the World Cup - and we will do that.

"If we don't go to the World Cup I will not have a job for sure. Maybe not in this country and maybe not in any other country.

"I care, and I can motivate, of course I can."

Wayne Rooney will miss the next qualifier against Austria due to suspension after picking up a yellow card in Belfast.

Eriksson says he does not yet know who will take his place but is confident he can find the right man.

He added: "Unfortunately we lose Rooney now for Austria and someone will take his place. I don't know who that is but we will find someone and beat Austria, and Poland and win the group."
