Hello everyone,

I hope you had a good summer and are ready for the new season. Ours has already started here and it began really well for Bayern with a 3-0 victory over Moenchengladbach on Friday night.

It was the first game of the season here and the first game in Bayern’s brand new stadium, which is going to be used in the World Cup finals. It was a really big match and there was lots of expectation and coverage around the game.

It went well for me personally, as I opened the scoring after 28 minutes. The ball deflected out to me and I just thought I’d go for it. It was a powerful shot but it had placement too and obviously I was really happy to see it go in.

I played in a couple of positions on the night, starting on the left-hand side of defence before moving into the midfield.

Physically, I feel really good at the moment. We’ve had a month’s training camp to prepare for the new season so I feel very strong, much better than this time last year. I had a nice relaxing summer too. I saw some of my family in Canada and also went to Las Vegas for a few days. There was lots of golf too!

Next week, I’ll hopefully be turning my mind towards England. The manager names his squad for the Denmark game on Saturday night and I hope I’m included.

It’ll be good to meet up with the boys again. I haven’t spoken to them for a couple of months really although I did call Darius to wish him all the best for his move to Manchester City.

People have asked me if maybe the position of a defensive midfielder alongside Frank [Lampard] and Steven [Gerrard] would be the best for me. I’d have to say that to play in any position is my aim.

We have a really flexible team so things like formations and whether we play a diamond or a regular 4-4-2 are the kind of things that will come out when we spend more time together as a group.

We know ourselves that we have a good squad but that is re-emphasised to me regularly here in Germany by the amount of interest there is in England’s progress. The journalists here are constantly asking me how the team’s shaping up. They think we have a very strong set of players.

I agree.

Owen Hargreaves.
