The Reasoning

Goalkeepers

Paul Robinson - deserves to be England number one, excellent all season, powerful, great agility.

David James - has experience and can be used when Robinson needs a rest, strong and is tall great for free kicks and corners.

Scott Carson - young, less experience but is definitely one for the future, was good at Leeds before he left for Liverpool, strong and powerful.

Defenders

Sol Campbell - powerful rock with experience. England need him as he makes his presence known to strikers through his physical strength.

Rio Ferdinand - forms a great partnership with Campbell and is also strong and powerful.

Ashley Cole - obvious choice for left back he practically owns it. Quick, links up well with other defenders and midfielders, uses the ball well and can deliver useful balls to strikers to score goals.

John Terry - would do well with both Rio or Campbell, consistent and reliable, strong, is quite quick.

Gary Neville - great partnership with Beckham on the right, no one can really take his place. Very experienced, can help younger players, is determined.

Jamie Carragher - consistent all season, brilliant in the Champions League final. England need him in the squad - he's sharp, strong, uses the ball well and plays well with Steven Gerrard.

Jonathan Woodgate - was one of the best central defenders in the country before he got injured. If he can get fit and get back to his best brilliant for England, strong, reliable, great cover for the goalkeeper.

Wayne Bridge - can work with Cole on the left or take his place if needs be, reliable, quite quick, can deliver useful balls to strikers.

Midfielders

David Beckham - our captain - what more can you say? He's versatile, a leader, is great at free kicks and corners and can defend as well.

Steven Gerrard - can protect the back four or run forward linking with Michael Owen and delivers the service you need.

Frank Lampard - works well with Gerrard and can go forward as well as protect back four. Chelsea's best player last season, strong and defends well.

Michael Carrick - was brilliant in the England games in America, has strength, and deserves to go, protects back four, great passer of the ball.

Joe Cole - can play on the left with Ashley Cole, skilful can make anything happen, quick, versatile.

Shaun Wright Phillips - can play on the right in place of Beckham if needs be, quick, determined, can deliver.

James Milner - was brilliant for the Under 20s at the Toulon Tournament, skilful, determined, can deliver and play on the left or right, quite quick, reliable, links up well with strikers and defenders.

Tom Huddlestone - was also brilliant for the Under 20s at the Toulon Tournament, strong, can play either in midfield or defence, powerful, links up well with all other players.

Strikers

Michael Owen - will definitely score goals, was good for Real Madrid last season. England's main striker, quick, experienced, links up well with midfielders.

Wayne Rooney - quality, powerful, a real challenge for defenders and is maturing all the time. Can create and score goals.

Alan Smith - can work with Owen, Defoe or Rooney, versatile, determined, can create and score goals, aggressive at the right time, strong, links up well with all other players, can defend well.

Jermain Defoe - can work with Rooney and Smith, quick, can score goals when most needed, links up well with fellow striker, skilful.

So what do you think of Tierni's squad? Agree? Disagree? Has she made a glaring omission? Has she justified her selections?
