Crouch was named in Sven-Goran Eriksson's starting eleven on Friday, partnering Andrew Johnson in attack.

However, the England Head Coach has been forced into a late change to replace Crouch, who suffered a slight foot injury during a final training session.

Adrian Bevington, The FA's Director of Communications, confirmed: "Peter Crouch is out of the game against the United States with a mild ankle strain.

"But, he could be available for the game with Colombia in New Jersey on Tuesday."
