The USA keep knocking on the door but for the moment the England defence holds firm with both Zat Knight and Glen Johnson making interceptions in quick succession. The ball appears to hit Johnson's hand in the box, but it is unintentional and the ref waves play on despite US protests.

Glen Johnson plays a fantastic cross-field ball to Richardson but the winger is offside. As USA come forward from the free-kick Ralston plays a great ball in to Wolff from the right. His header splits the defence but Donovan fires wide with the goal at his mercy.
