LION OF THE WEEKEND: Kieron Dyer gave Spurs the runaround as Newcastle booked their FA Cup Semi-Final place.
Kieron Dyer is living up to his potential and was Newcastle United’s star man in Sunday’s FA Cup success against Spurs on Sunday.
The England man set a hot early tempo which stretched Spurs and enabled to score the only goal of the game after four minutes through Patrick Kluivert.
Dyer’s bursts down the right flank earned an early booking for Timothee Atouba and he presented a constant threat.
Former England striker Malcolm Macdonald said: "Kieron has flattered to deceive in the past but now he’s trying to follow one good performance with another.
"It’s that consistency he needs - everyone knows he is one of the best runners in the game."
Dyer was at top speed all afternoon, getting to the byline on several occasions as Newcastle took the early initiative.
He has played in every midfield position for Newcastle in the past but showed against Spurs he can be a genuine threat as a wide man.
"He is also looking more of a goal threat which is something he needed," said an impressed Macdonald.
