Lampard follows last-year's winner David Beckham in collecting the award, which is voted for by the England fans themselves.

Lampard's six goals in 14 games helped him to collect 40% of the total vote, finishing ahead of Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard. He said:

"I'm really, really delighted to win this award, especially after the amazing year that Wayne Rooney had in 2004."

Lucky fan Mick Longstaff, from Whitburn in Sunderland, will present the award to Lampard and enjoy a VIP night at the game, after he was chosen from the 20,000 England fans who voted in TheFA.com's official poll.

TheFA.com will feature a full interview with Frank Lampard tomorrow, ahead of kick-off, in which he talks about EURO 2004 and the year he's had, the progress he's made and what he thinks of Zidane.
