England Head Coach Sven-Goran Eriksson has named a 24-man squad for next week's friendly against Holland at Villa Park.
Included in the squad are Middlesbrough's in-form midfielder Stewart Downing and Crystal Palace's Andy Johnson, the leading English goalscorer in the Premiership and Sven is looking forward to working with both these new additions to his squad.
"Stewart [Downing] has been playing very well for a long time so now we'll have a look at him. I think its fair," Sven told TheFA.com.
"He's still very young so there is much more to come from him but he has already been playing regularly in the Premier League this season and we can see that he is improving all the time.
"I am not sure whether or not he will start from the beginning but I would not have named him in the squad if I didn't want to see him play.
"It's not just on the pitch during the match that will be important for him though. He will also learn a lot being around the squad and during training and of course having Steve McClaren with us will be a big help for him."
The other new man in the squad, Andy Johnson, has taken the Premiership by storm this season and having scored 15 goals, stands proudly as the leading English goalscorer in the top flight this season.
Johnson has won caps at England Under-20 level and now the Palace front-man will be hoping he gets the chance to show what he can do against Marco van Basten's men.
"He has pace and is a goalscorer, so I've been watching him for some time for Crystal Palace and now and I have the chance to take a closer look at him when he is with us this week," Sven said.
"That pace that he has is very important in modern international football. He has a lot of it and that is a big thing. He also works very hard for the team and technically has he good ability with the ball at his feet.
"Another quality is his bravery. He is happy to play on his own and work for his chances and take the tackles. These are all good qualities and he seems intelligent too. It helps if you are clever in life and international football is no different to that.
"He was very near to coming into the squad last time and now he's here. It's very exciting to have players like him and Stewart Downing coming through and we have this friendly game to take a look at them.
"With these two and Shaun Wright-Phillips - who isn't new to the squad but is almost new - we have some very interesting options to pick from."
England will be without the hugely experienced centre-back pairing of Sol Campbell and Rio Ferdinand, who are both missing with injuries.
Sven told TheFA.com: "Sol is out with his ankle injury and we are without Rio too, which is a shame. So I'm quite sure that means John Terry will start the game on Wednesday.
"The competition to start the game as a central defender for England is very, very strong these days. We have four maybe five very good central defenders and obviously that's a good dilemma for me to have.
"The situation with these two injuries will help to make my mind up for the team this time but it's not uncommon that it should work out in that way. Many times it is like that, and I have learnt in football that you should never create problems for yourself because the problems might resolve themselves before its time to play.
"Anyway, it should be excellent to see how John Terry will play."
Overall, Sven is excited at the prospect of going back to Villa Park, the scene of his first ever match in charge of England, and the visit of the talented Dutch squad.
"Maybe we might see something a little bit new tactically against Holland, but first of all I want to see if the players I want to pick are fit and are coming. There are still a few games between now and when we meet up on Monday so I hope everyone comes through ok."
