Spain coach Luis Aragones has opted for an exciting line-up according to journalists in Madrid, and it should make for a fascinating match.

If the reports are true it means a place for Arsenal’s Jose Antonio Reyes on one wing and lightning-quick Joaquin on the other.

Alex Duff, a Madrid-based reporter for Bloomberg News, said: "It's certainly a very attacking line-up because Joaquin and Reyes are both very quick players on the wing.

"The coach seems to think that England are a physical and strong side who would be difficult to out-manoeuvre through the middle - he believes he will have more joy with pace down the flanks.

"But because of injuries he also has an inexperienced defence, so this could be a game with a lot of goals."

With Liverpool’s Xabi Alonso pulling the strings in central midfield alongside Barcelona’s Xavi Hernandez, it leaves record-breaking striker Raul (39 goals in 79 caps) up front alongside highly-rated youngster Fernando Torres for the Spanish.

Real Madrid’s gifted midfielder Guti is also expected to play at least some part in the match, adding to Spain’s options. So it certainly seems like an attacking line-up.

"We are playing a team that are difficult and which plays at a high rhythm," explained Aragones. "We will need to have the ball and look to attack quickly."

The only problems for Spain are in defence, where first-choice centre backs Carlos Puyol of Barcelona and Ivan Helguera of Real Madrid are both injured.

Juanito, only recently added to the squad, and Carlos Marchena are the men expected to deputise, with Michel Salgado and Asier Del Horno the full-backs in front of keeper Iker Casillas.

England Head Coach Sven-Goran Eriksson is relishing the chance to take on such a strong Spain side.

He said: "There are a lot of players to admire. Joaquin is very, very quick, as is Reyes. We all know about Raul and I also like Torres, he plays like a young Van Basten.

"And then there is the goalkeeper, of course. He is amazing for someone so young."

Spain are hoping for an improved performance tonight after drawing 0-0 against Lithuania in their previous match – a World Cup qualifier in Group 7.

There will be at least six changes to the side that were held in Vilnius in front of only 9,114 fans. And there will be a very different atmosphere inside the Bernabeu.

"I certainly think the Spanish team will be up for it," said Madrid reporter Duff. "They want to win the game and there should be a lot of attacking options for them.

"But I think England are the stronger team at the moment so if I had to give a prediction I'd say 3-2 to England!"
