The Manchester United midfielder announced his retirement from international football earlier this month but, speaking on England TV here on TheFA.com Sven said he hoped Paul might change his mind, and would always be welcome if he did:

"I have to accept the decision of Paul," he explained. "He thought it took too much time playing international football, and of course it takes a lot of time.

"I’ve always thought that you must have happy players to make good results.

"I’m very sorry, but thank you to Paul for everything he’s done for England, and who knows, one day he might change his mind and he’s always welcome if he does that.

"The door is always open – Paul Scholes is Paul Scholes"
