Tottenham manager Jacques Santini has backed Jermain Defoe to become the best striker for both club and country.
Defoe came on as a substitute for the second half of England's recent friendly with Ukraine, and his energetic display alongside Michael Owen proved a constant threat to the Ukraine rear-guard.
Despite snatching at a golden opportunity early in the half, Defoe didn't let his head go down, and was only denied his first international goal thanks to a brilliant save by Ukraine 'keeper, Alexandr Shovkovskyy.
The future certainly looks bright for the young Tottenham striker, and his manager feels he has the potential to become one of the world's top strikers:
The former France coach said: "Jermain is very good both individually and collectively at Tottenham. He is very quick with the ball and his speed is tricky to handle.
"He can become a very good striker if he improves his concentration in front of goal. [On Wednesday] he missed a shot from six or seven yards for England.
"With a player like Alan Shearer, David Trezeguet or Thierry Henry that chance would always have gone into the net.
"But he is still young and with many training sessions in front of goal he can become the best striker at Tottenham and in England."
