Beckham has been suffering from a rib injury and underwent scans yesterday to discover whether any had been broken.

But the damage is not as bad as first feared and Eriksson is hopeful that his skipper will be able to join in training today as England prepare to face Poland in Katowice.

Eriksson said: "He had a scan yesterday and he did not have any broken ribs. He will try to train today and although I can't say I'm sure he will play, I think he will play tomorrow.

"We will have to see after training today and see how he is tomorrow."

Eriksson is aware that England will face a tough match in Katowice tomorrow.

Poland beat Northern Ireland 3-0 at the weekend and will be full of confidence as they wait to take on the Three Lions.

"I watched them at the weekend and think they played very well. They have some very good players

"They have Mila who I'm sure will create a lot of problems for us. He's a creative midfielder and will do a lot of running. So it will be tough for us."
