Regular right-back Gary Neville is unavailable after having a groin operation
and Young is expected to take his place in the squad, which Head Coach Sven-Goran Eriksson names on Sunday.
Young was impressive against Wales and Northern Ireland and has continued his fine form for Charlton and King, who played with Young at Tottenham, says that he is starting to show what he can do.
"I think he has always had that potential," said King. "He came into the Tottenham team at an early age and put in some good performances. So the potential was always there.
"He moved on to Charlton and it has maybe taken him a while to prove how good he is, but he has always been consistent. He is maybe not someone who stands out but always does a job for you.
"Now he is starting to get the attention his performances deserve and it was great for him to play in the two qualifying games for England."
England face Austria and Poland in their final World Cup Group Six qualifiers at Old Trafford next month.
