As Sven-Goran Eriksson names his England squad for the World Cup qualification double-header against Austria and Poland, we take a look at the form of the players that have been called up.
Frank Lampard
The midfielder turned in a man of the match performance to help Chelsea come back from a goal down against Southampton to win 2-1. Lampard created a number of chances for his team-mates and struck the winner from the penalty spot.
Jermain Defoe
Defoe scored the only goal of the game as Tottenham beat Birmingham at White Hart Lane. His brilliant solo effort gave Sven-Goran Eriksson a timely reminder of his goal-scoring prowess as the England boss considers his starting line-up for the World Cup qualifier against Austria.
Alan Smith
Smith came to Manchester United’s rescue with an injury-time equaliser at Blackburn. The former Leeds striker has made an excellent start to his United career and looks to have been another astute signing by Sir Alex Ferguson.
