England jump five places
Thursday, 15 July 2004.
England have moved up five places in the FIFA World Rankings following their Euro 2004 campaign.
Sven's men lost out to hosts Portugal in a dramatic quarter-final penalty shoot-out last month, but victories over Switzerland and Croatia have made the Three Lions third highest movers going up from 13th to number eight in the latest FIFA list released on Wednesday.
Wayne Rooney inspired England with four goals and Frank Lampard hit three as we finished as the tournament's joint-top scorers with ten goals along with the Czech Republic.
They themselves moved up seven spots to sit behind Brazil, France and Spain on fourth.
But undoubtedly, this month's biggest risers were shock Euro 2004 winners Greece. Previously at 35th before the Summer in Portugal, the Greek's first ever tournament victory helped them up 21 places to number 14.
