The England captain is suspended for the final group game after being booked twice during last Saturday's qualifier against Austria.

However, he had still hoped to stay with the England squad to watch the game at Old Trafford and he took part in today's training session at Manchester United's Carrington base.

Real are nevertheless anxious for the midfielder, who has been an integral part of their recent revival after three consecutive defeats, to train with them tomorrow.

The Spanish side, who are third in the Primera Liga, face the Madrid derby on Saturday with a game away to Atletico, and Beckham's ban means The Football Association have agreed to the official request.

FA Director of Communications Adrian Bevington confirmed: "We have received a formal request from Real Madrid advising us they require David Beckham to travel back to Spain for training tomorrow.

"This follows a conversation between [Real Madrid director of football] Arrigo Sacchi and Sven-Goran Eriksson."
