The Three Lions take on the Ukrainians in their only match before starting their World Cup qualifying campaign against Austria in September.

In what will be his side's first match since Euro 2004, Sven sees the match as pivotal to England's preparations for the forthcoming campaign.

"This is a big game for us. We have important World Cup qualifying matches against Austria and Poland next month so we must hit the ground running," he told TheFA.com.

"Playing against the Ukraine, and against players like Rebrov is the ideal preparation."

The match sees England play at Newcastle United's ground for the second time under Sven, and it is clearly a ground which he believes is special.

"I am excited to be going back to St James' Park too. It has such a tremendous atmosphere, I can't think of any better place to start our England season."

The squad will be announced on TheFA.com at around 7.30pm on Saturday. Sven said: "I am very much looking forward to meeting up with the players again. There may be new faces in the squad - we will have to see."
