Joe Cole: Post-Match Reaction

The Chelsea midfielder talks to TheFA.com after England's 1-0 win over Austria at Old Trafford.

Joe Cole says England can be happy with themselves after beating Austria and that he was "always sure" Frank Lampard would score that decisive penalty.

The Chelsea man was one of England's best performers as the Three Lions picked up a crucial win on the path to World Cup qualification.

"[It was a] good steady performance," Cole said. "We played some good stuff. In the first half we were very comfortable and we held on well at the end.

"We played well and we can be happy with ourselves."

The only goal of the game came after 25 minutes when Frank Lampard calmly stroked home a penalty awarded after a foul on Michael Owen.

And Cole was confident when he saw his Stamford Bridge colleague step up to take the vital spot kick.

"He never lets you down from penalties," Cole added. "If you want someone on it, you want Frank [and] I was delighted when he scored."
