MATCH CENTRE
Saturday, 09 October 2004.
Speaking to TheFA.com, the Chelsea defender gave us his views on Mark Hughes and the Welsh squad.
Terry was one of the young professionals at Chelsea when Hughes joined the club from Manchester United and the experience of playing alongside such a player has stuck with the England centre-back."He was a legend," says Terry. "I was a Man Utd fan growing up and he was one of my heroes. To get the chance to play against him and play with him was fantastic for me."He was a great professional on and off the pitch. I had a few battles with him - he used to bully me but it obviously helped me along the way."Even back then, Terry could see the potential manager in Hughes, who has taken over the managerial reigns at Blackburn Rovers recently."He was good around the dressing room. He was good with the young lads [and] always had a spare five minutes to have a word with them."And so to the challenge of Hughes' Welsh side. No-one in the England camp is under-estimating the Welsh, least of all Terry."Going forward they are very good. They've got great passion in their side and I think they've got a great squad."Craig Bellamy is always difficult to mark but we've got a lot of experience at the back."There will be some nice football played but passions will run high."Click on the links above to watch the full interview.Don't forget, you can listen to the game live with us from 3pm on Saturday.
