England were denied the victory their football deserved when Austria scored two goals in the space of two minutes to draw level.

There was nothing the Manchester City keeper could do with the first goal as it was a brilliant free kick from substitute Roland Kollman and the second took a deflection and spun off a greasy surface and under his body.

But James refuses to be downbeat about his performance and has set his sights on bouncing back immediately when England play in Chorzow on Wednesday night.

He said: "It's good that there is another game coming up so quickly so I can put this one behind me and put in a good performance.

"It's a team game. When you do good things you take the praise, when bad you share the grief. I thought we were comfortable at 2-0.

"The free kick shouldn't have changed the way the game was going, but the equaliser cost us the three points. The shot took a little deflection and it slightly put me in the wrong position.

"It's something I'm not really happy with, but it's a mistake and mistakes do happen. You have to be mentally tough, but I'm not going to make out that it wasn't somebody else's fault."
