European Championship Qualifier
Wembley Stadium
Wednesday 17 October 1990
Continuing our build-up to England's final qualifier on Wednesday, we've got more highlights of a classic England v Poland match. Today it's the European Championship qualifier at Wembley in October 1990.
In front of a crowd close to capacity, England were frustrated during the opening 20 minutes by a tight Polish outfit.
Chances came for Lee Dixon and Steve Bull before Czachowski handled on the line from a Gary Lineker header in the 40th minute.
The penalty hero from Italia '90 stepped up himself to slot home his fifth goal in five games.
England sealed victory in the final minute when substitute Peter Beardsley collected a pass from Dixon on the right.
The Liverpool forward sent in a rasping shot bending away from goalkeeper Wandzik to give England the perfect start to their qualification campaign.
