Joe Cole feels his game is maturing all the time and if given a chance down England's left at Old Trafford on Saturday he would have the necessary discipline to marshal the flank.

Speaking exclusively to TheFA.com for England TV the prodigiously talented Chelsea playmaker said he would sacrifice personal plaudits for the sake of the team.

"If I do get a chance to play I’m just going to be disciplined and not try too hard to impress anybody - just do a job for the team." he explained, 

"I'd be looking to link up with Ashley [Cole] well, link up with the strikers - maybe sometimes float in behind the strikers and give us an extra option.

"I'd just basically try and score goals and make goals but do it in a disciplined fashion - defensively I'd try and keep it solid down the left hand side.

"It’s a really massive game and the sort of game you want to play in as a professional."
