Fulham midfielder Inamoto had an outstanding game as Japan earned a 1-1 draw against the Three Lions at the City of Manchester Stadium.

But he was carried off the field and taken to hospital after being injured in a 90th minute challenge, and there are fears he has broken his left ankle.

Sven said: "It is sad news. We would like to wish him a very speedy recovery, on behalf of the England team and myself. I hope he is able to return to fitness as quickly as possible."

The Japanese FA confirmed early on Wednesday morning that Inamoto was sent for x-rays and that doctors suspect a broken bone. They say Inamoto will still travel home to Japan with the national squad today and will receive treatment there.

A Fulham spokesman said: "We're still waiting to find out the full extent of the injury and see the doctor's report but obviously our sympathy and thoughts go to Ina. He had a fantastic game against England and this is a big blow."
