| European Championship Stockholm 17 June 1992England had the perfect start to a match that was to see their exit from the European Championship as David Platt scored England's first goal of the Finals after four minutes.
His conversion from Gary Lineker's cross might have been the platform for victory but once again chances were not taken and England were made to pay a heavy price.
Andy Sinton went close with a right-footed shot from the left edge of the penalty area which curled just beyond the far post of Ravelli's goal.
Moments later Aston Villa winger Tony Daley ran clear of his marker but his cross-cum-shot was just out of the reach of an outstretched Lineker.
As the game wore on, slowly but surely Sweden started to dominate territorially as Graham Taylor's side struggled to keep hold of possession.
Six minutes into the second half, Jan Eriksson equalised when he headed home a left-wing corner.
Lineker was controversially withdrawn in the 62nd minute, a sad way for his England career to end.
Nine minutes from time a winner from Thomas Brolin, after he exchanged passes with strike partner Martin Dahlin, sealed England's fate.
