The two will come face-to-face when England meet Portugal in tonight's friendly in Faro.

Ronaldo, signed for £12.24 million from Sporting Lisbon in the summer, took over Beckham's No 7 shirt after the 28-year-old left for Real Madrid.

However, the Portuguese starlet feels he has nothing to prove and is only interested in guiding his country to victory.

"It does not matter whether I am playing against Beckham or anyone else, the responsibility is the same," he said at the launch of Portugal's new kit.

"It is another game for me to show my progression ahead of Euro 2004.

"I really want to go to the European Championship and be part of the team because I believe Portugal can win it. But I am not taking anything for granted."

England last played Portugal in a friendly at Villa Park in 2002, with Alan Smith scoring in the first half before Costinha levelled with 10 minutes to go.
