John Terry and Darius Vassell have both withdrawn from the England squad to face Portugal on Wednesday night.
Chelsea defender Terry picked-up a shin injury in his club's 2-1 FA Cup defeat at Highbury on Sunday. Though a scan on Monday night was clear, having felt the injury in training this morning, it has been decided that it would be best for the player to return to Chelsea for treatment on the knock.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa striker Vassell, who has found the net six times in his last six Premier League games, fell ill during the night and has also returned home to recover, and will miss the friendly against the hosts of Euro 2004
All other members of Sven's 24-man squad named at the weekend trained on Tuesday morning.
