What They Say

"Fed a delightful ball for Chelsea's winner" - The Independent

"There's been great improvement in his passing" - Sky Sports Sunday Mirror

"He fitted in with the new-look Chelsea midfield" - Ray Wilkins

Every time Roman Abramovich flourishes the Chelsea chequebook there is speculation about which Stamford Bridge star will have to make way.

On this evidence, it certainly won't be Frank Lampard, who is in the England squad to face Croatia on Wednesday night.

Lampard was an integral part of the newlook Chelsea's 2-1 win at Liverpool on Sunday.

Alongside summer buys Geremi, Juan Veron and Damien Duff, Lampard was the old hand on the tiller - and found time to get forward and make a telling contribution.

Having been denied a goal by an outstanding Jerzy Dudek full-length save, Lampard went onto create his side's late winner.

A 40-yard pass was swept into the path of Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and the Dutch striker scored with four minutes remaining.

Lampard is a former England under-21 captain whose ability to get from box-to-box is reminiscent of David Platt at his peak.

He made his full England debut against Belgium in 1999 and moved to Chelsea for £11million two years ago. Rio Ferdinand, David Beckham and Alan Shearer are the only Englishmen who have cost more.
