Today and tomorrow the England coach will meet the top managers in the country to talk over ways in which the national team and the leading clubs can work together in the best interests of all parties.

Before he left Soho Square to attend the discussions, Sven took time out to tell TheFA.com what he was hoping to glean from the next couple of days.

"It can only be a good thing that people from the clubs and people from The FA sit down to talk about the fixtures that we have in our game," he explained.

 

"We have to find a solution that is good for the clubs and good for the national team. We need to look to the future and agree. What do we want to do with friendly games for example?

"The fixture list is always a big problem in England because of the amount of games but we will try and find a solution - together.

"I am not here to simply fight the interests of the national team. I want to defend English football. If I am only defending the national team and they only defend the clubs, then there would be no point in having the meetings in the first place.

"I am glad we are having these meetings. It will be very good I think."
