The FA has been working hard to arrange these meetings for some months now. The day after England faced Australia in a friendly match at Upton Park in February, The FA's Acting Chief Executive David Davies told TheFA.com: "There has to be a better way to support the National Team and Sven-Goran Eriksson, while recognising the interests of the Clubs.

"It is our responsibility to find it. That's why with The Premier League and The League Managers Association we are hosting what may be a series of discussions with managers from top clubs.

"The response of those managers with whom I have spoken in recent days has been very positive already and we are looking forward to meeting together over the coming weeks. The arrangements for this were set in motion before last night's match."

We can now confirm that this process will be stepped up next week.

"We have arranged a set of meetings to take place next Wednesday and Thursday in London," an FA spokesman confirmed to us on Friday afternoon.

"Sven will meet with most of the managers that provide the bulk of the players to the England team over the course of the two days. David Davies will also be present.

"The discussions will be about both the national team and domestic football. Our aim is to find the best way possible for all parties to work together in the best interests of English football."
