Midfielders turn strikers to give Sven more options as he prepares to name his squad on Sunday night
Teddy Sheringham has done it brilliantly for years, it is one of the most coveted positions in international football, but will Sven pick a striker to play 'in the hole' against Slovakia and who will it be?
Paul Scholes has claimed he is perfectly suited to the attacking role that Sir Alex Ferguson has earmarked for him at Manchester United this season. In two games since his comeback from knee surgery, the 27-year-old has been outstanding, providing the link between midfield and attack Ferguson always felt he was capable of.
Sven may also be interested to know that the man with an eye for goal and a deadly finish is relishing his new role.
``I like it,'' he told MUTV. ``It's the perfect position for me and hopefully I can play well there, create a few goals and score some myself.
``I have not played that many games this season but the knee feels fine now so I am looking for an injury-free run now.''
Meanwhile, Kieron Dyer also excelled in the same role for Newcastle in their game against Juventus on Tuesday and the former Ipswich livewire is now desperate for the chance to play alongside Michael Owen for England.
Of his new striking role Kieron said: "I love playing there and would like to do in more. The England midfield almost picks itself but there is a place up for grabs alongside Michael Owen in attack."
Messrs Heskey and Smith may also have something to say about that and, with Teddy still banging in the goals, Sven's options are beginning to stack up.

Sven will name his squad on TheFA.com on Sunday night.
