Sven-Goran Eriksson today insisted that there are no problems between him and any Premiership managers. Following Paul Scholes appearance on Tuesday for Manchester United the England coach said that he was 'surprised' when the player appeared but explained that there was no rift.
"I talked to Manchester United on Monday morning or Sunday and he [Scholes] was not supposed to play but Ferguson phoned me after the game and explained the reason why [he did play]," Eriksson said on Sky Sports News.
"I don't think he was fit...but they were lacking players and they needed to win that game. Sometimes you take risks for the three points."
He added: "I am satisfied when I have all the players I have in my mind at my disposal. It is a friendly game and they have small problems, Beckham, Dyer, Campbell, Scholes.
"I have a very good relationship with all the managers and I want to go on like that. "We will see what happens in the next friendly in February. Maybe I will use some of the things I can use but that is for February, not tomorrow."
At Sven's disposal is the opportunity to invoke the FIFA five-day ruling for future internationals. "Tomorrow, I'll talk to Adam Crozier about it and we will probably change it for the future," Eriksson told Sky Sports News.
"We will use the power we can use and get them (the players with injury concerns) to report (for England duty). It's a FIFA ruling and I don't think they can refuse to release the players. It's impossible.
"If you'd read the papers these last few days you'd get the sensation that someone is cheating but I don't think that's the case.
"To avoid any confusion in the future it would be better if everyone reports for duty and then let another doctor see the players and assess them to decide if they are fit to play."
Eriksson explained his belief that there is no reason why players would not turn up if they were fit: "I refuse to believe that fully fit players won't want to come here and join England. Nicky Butt is as important to Manchester United as David Beckham or Paul Scholes so why is Butt here - the answer is because he is fit.
"I think it's always a difficult situation when you play friendlies. If you have a player not 100% fit, like Scholes, (Sol) Campbell and (Kieron) Dyer, then why should they play a friendly game. If it was a friendly for the club then I don't think they should play. I don't think you should risk a player in a friendly game."
Speaking of his time in club management in Italy Eriksson said: "I did not like friendly matches at all. It is very normal but in Italy it is different. Players called up cannot say no. He goes and comes back." He added: "I understand the frustration. If a player comes to me and says he is not 100% I will never play him.
"As a manager in club or national teams you all have problems. You want to do things better and have more time. You have to try to convince people, never stop fighting for your ideas.
"I never thought it would be easy to be England manager or a manager in Italy. You do not give up, you try to achieve as much as possible."
