Darius Vassell in thoughtful mood
England 1 Cameroon 1, H/T
Tuesday, 16 July 2002.
England and Cameroon are all-square at the break in their friendly international in Kobe, Darius Vassell equalising after E'too had put the home team infront.
Despite England's injury worries, Sven-Goran Eriksson was able to field a strong side, with Joe Cole and Owen Hargreaves supporting Paul Scholes in midfield, and Emile Heskey in the left with Vassell and Owen up front.
England were behind as early as the 5th minutes. Pierre Wome got in behind Wes Brown on the left hand side, and sent in a cross which rebounded off the cross bar, and straight to E'too, who gave Martyn no chance.
The equaliser came after 13 minutes when Paul Scholes picked up the ball in midfield and played in Darius Vassell on the edge of the penalty area. His first touch set him up for a shot which powered into the net, giving him his third goal in just five games.
Owen also had the ball in the net after the goalkeeper dropped the ball straight into his path, but he had been offside when the original header went in.
