Goalscorer and goalkeeper reflect on Euro opener with France

Joleon Lescott was delighted to get on the scoresheet as England began EURO 2012 with a 1-1 draw against France.

Lescott nodded in Steven Gerrard's free-kick to give England the lead in the 30th minute before Samir Nasri clawed France level nine minutes later.

And Lescott said: "Overall it was a good performance. It was professional and we were the better team for the first 25 minutes.

"It's always nice to score and it was extra special that it was in a major tournament. It doesn't get any more important than that."

And 'keeper Joe Hart added: "Samir is a clever player. We dropped off a bit, he hit it hard and heavy through people and he beat me. It was a good goal, but it's time to focus on a good performance. We are moving in the right direction but we would have liked to have won.

"We showed resilience. You are always going to get pride and belief but there is quality as well. They weren't ready for us in the first 25 minutes."
