Hart playing for his place

Tuesday, 28 February, 2012

Goalkeeper never settles for starting spot.

Goalkeeper Joe Hart has emerged as one of the world's best young goalkeepers but he is refusing to take his place in an exciting, young England team for granted ahead of Wednesday's game against Holland.

"I've felt like that every time I have come away with the squad, there are always three top quality 'keepers who are doing well for their clubs and I just want to play for my country, it's a great honour and I want to continue," said  Hart.

The change in manager has opened doors for two players to make their way into the squad and Hart is overjoyed to see Micah Richards and Fraizer Campbell in the group.

"I know Fraizer well and it was terrible to see him injured, he suffered the problem against Manchester City and it was gutting to see him out for so long and it's great to see him back and scoring goals for Sunderland, a team who are doing well," he said.

"I think Micah is a great person and a great player, he is improving all the time and I think he has deserved his call-up to the squad."

The chance to play against one of the most accomplished countries in Europe is providing incentive for Hart and not anxiety.

"It's great to be playing Holland, a team that will be in a similar situation to us in the summer and hoping they do well, so it will be a great test to see how we match up against them," he added.

"When everyone comes here they want to impress, we've sold 75,000 seats and to play against previous World Cup winners adds to the excitement.

"There's a lot of excitement in the squad, we want to see what we are made of and tomorrow will show what we can do."
