Fabio Capello's initial reaction after victory over Wales.
Fabio Capello gave an honest summary of his team’s performance as they earned another victory to take them a step closer to progressing from Group G.
A determined display ended with a 1-0 win that leaves England needing just a point from their final qualifier, against Montenegro.
“The first half we started not so well but after that we played not so bad,” said the England manager.
“We scored a goal and in the second half for 20-25 minutes we played well but [Wales] showed a lot in the last 15 minutes and had an incredible chance to score a goal. We had some problems with their counter-attack but not too much.
“I know the style we like but today sometimes the opponents only played two players up meaning the ball moved really slowly.
“Sometimes the result is more important than the other things.”
The result came despite injuries to Rio Ferdinand and Jack Wilshere and Capello is confident his side will be even more formidable when the pair return with Steven Gerrard also due to make his comeback.
“We need to improve, we are playing better away than at Wembley. We need some players to recover and in the future some players will be back fit to play for the senior team.”
