England winger Adam Johnson is expecting a tough test when Switzerland arrive at Wembley this weekend, but after playing a major role in last September’s victory against them, is more than confident of ending the season on a high.

Johnson was amongst the England scorers in a 3-1 win in Basel when the sides last met. That was only the second game of the qualifying campaign and since then, Fabio Capello’s side have gone on to top the group table.

Now, the Manchester City ace wants England to consolidate that spot before the qualifying campaign renews next season.

“It’s massive for us and it’s the last game of the season for all of the players so it’s one last big push before we have a break,” he said.

“We all want to go into the break in a good position so we just can’t wait for Saturday now, to go out and get that win.

“We just need to be focused and take the game to them. That’s the main thing and hopefully the result will take care of itself.”

The first game with Switzerland came early in Johnson’s time with the Senior squad, when he was introduced as an early substitute for the injured Theo Walcott.

He made a big impression that night on what was a good result and performance from the Three Lions, but feels that game will have little bearing on Saturday’s clash.

“They are a good team and they will come here and try and make it hard for us, but if we play like we did away in Switzerland, we’ve got a good chance of winning the game,” he added.

“We played really well that night, but it’s a totally different game now and there will be different players in both teams.

“As a whole, they are quite solid, work hard for each other and don’t really have too many individuals. Sometimes, that’s hard to play against.

“We’re at home, so there’s always pressure on us to push and attack teams and win, whoever we’re playing against.”
