Joe Hart admits he’s still constantly striving for perfection in order to fully establish himself as England’s number one goalkeeper.

The Manchester City man has been a regular for the Three Lions over the course of the season, but doesn’t want to allow any complacency to sneak into his game ahead of the game with Switzerland on Saturday.

“I’m trying do everything I can do to be number one, whether that’s at club level or in training everyday here,” he revealed.

“I keep trying to do positive things and the right things and hopefully the Manager will pick me on Saturday.

“I’m just happy to be here and involved and want to keep working hard and playing games.”

It’s the final match of what has been a memorable season for Hart, during which he’s become the first choice ‘keeper at Eastlands and lifted The FA Cup and helped City to third place in the Premier League and qualification for the Champions League.

Now, his attentions have turned back to England duty and helping the team to three points against the Swiss.

“It’s a massive game on Saturday,” he added. “It’s a qualifier and we’ve had a good start to the campaign so three points are key on Saturday.

“I think we do need to win and we’d love to do that. We’re in a very good place in the group thus far and three points will go a long way to helping us to our main goal.

“We need 90 minutes of togetherness, effort and quality.”

There will be a sell-out crowd in place at Wembley for the game, with expectations high for a win and three points against Ottmar Hitzfeld’s side.

And Hart believes that is something which the players have grown accustomed to over the last few years back at their home.

“England are expected to win every game,” he said. “If we played against a team of 500 people, we’d be expected to win at Wembley so nothing changes there.

“We know full well that when teams come to Wembley, it’s a big day for them because it’s such an amazing occasion and a great stadium. We know Switzerland will bring everything they can.

“We just have to turn up and do our best and hopefully that will be enough to see us win and go to the top of the league.”
