England Manager Fabio Capello spoke to FATV after his team's hard earned victory over Spain at Wembley and admitted that he always knew his side would have to defend well if they were to overcome the World and European Champions.
A second-half goal from Frank Lampard proved to be the winner for England, but Capello was also pleased with the way his side kept the visitors at bay for large parts of the game.
"It was a really tough game because to beat Spain is very difficult," he said.
"It is impossible to play any other way against Spain because they have a lot of passes and try to win back the ball.
"It's not that we prepare to play around the box, it's just the syle of Spain and the style of Barcelona.
"I've seen a lot of games and lot of tapes and all of the teams they play against need to defend.
"They had more possession and the movement of their players, with the ball and without the ball and the way they press a lot makes it very difficult to beat them.
"They are the best team in the world now, so we are happy for the players and and the crowd and I am happy because I think the confidence of the team will improve."
