Midfielder looking forward to what will be his 'proudest moment'.
Frank Lampard will lead his country against World Champions Spain on Saturday - and says it will be the proudest moment of his international career.
The Chelsea midfielder will win his 90th cap at Wembley as Fabio Capello's men warm up for Euro 2012 and Lampard spoke of his honour at being handed the armband.
He said: "I am 33 now and just very honoured to have [the captaincy].
"It will be my proudest moment in an England shirt. To be at the home ground will be a very special moment and I am delighted."
Lampard also knows a thing or two about beating Spain. He was part of the side that won 3-0 against them at Villa Park in 2001 and although times have changed since then, Lampard is sure England will be a match for Vicente Del Bosque's men.
"I didn't realise I was the only one left from the 2001 win - that must be an age thing," said Lampard, who has previously captained England, away to Denmark in February.
"I won't be telling anyone anything. The levels they have reached is different to the other eras. We are aware of what we are up against as they are the best team in the world.
"But we have our responsibilities and it is a huge day for us. You can't add any more to what it means to play for England and we're all aware of that.
"We have to believe in ourselves. We will respect them but we are England and we're playing at home. Their huge strength is in midfield with Xavi, [Andreas] Iniesta and David Silva - the midfield is such an important area."
