Ashley Young believes Tom Cleverley has got a big future with the England team and feels he will have no problems settling into the squad following his first call-up for the friendly against Holland on Wednesday night.
Cleverley had an impressive loan spell with Wigan last season and has been outstanding once again for Manchester United during the pre-season campaign.
The Manchester United midfielder impressed Fabio Capello when he appeared as a substitute during the Community Shield win over Manchester City and was called up as a replacement for Jack Wilshere and Michael Carrick who have pulled out of the squad.
Young has no doubts that Cleverley will make an immediate impact and has the ideal chance to cement his place in the squad.
Young said: “He has done terrific in pre-season and when I have seen him. I think if you saw the game on Sunday he was brilliant when he came on and he has got a great future ahead of him.
“I’m sure he will be delighted to join up with the squad. He has been tremendous and I’m sure he will go onto be a top player.
“He is confident in his own ability and I’m sure he will come here and do well. He knows a few of the players here and he will be very welcomed into the squad.”
Young is also hoping to impress once again and believes his summer move to Manchester United will improve his chances of getting a regular run in the England team.
Young added: “Hopefully it will boost my England chances even more so than when I was with Aston Villa. I have said that moving to Manchester United will improve my chances of getting a regular starting place.
“As long as I am playing well for Manchester United fingers crossed I can start for England as well.
“I think it is very important to have a friendly as preparation for the qualifiers that are coming up. All the teams are involved in friendlies this week so it is good preparation.”
