England defender Gary Cahill has spoken of his pride, ahead of his first start for the Three Lions against Ghana on Tuesday night.
The Bolton Wanderers man has been told by Manager Fabio Capello that he will be starting against the African side at Wembley and he now can't wait to experience it all from the start after being a regular in the squad for the last 12 months.
"Obviously it's a great honour," he exclusively told FATV.
"I'm really looking forward to it, it's a great opportunity for myself to go out there on a great pitch which we trained on this morning, and go and enjoy my football.
"I'll go out and enjoy playing for my country, there's no better moment than that in your whole career."
Cahill was also quick to pay tribute to the development he experienced whilst playing for the England youth teams, both with the U19s and Under-21s prior to stepping up to Senior level.
"It's been massive for me, in that the set-up and everything you do is very similar all through the age groups," he added.
"The way that you do things, the training and the style of play is very similar so it definitely helps you. Obviously there's more pressure at Senior level, but it has definitely stood me in good stead in terms of the U19s and Under-21s that I was involved with."
Joining Cahill in the starting line-up, albeit at the other end of the field, will be another player making his first start for the Three Lions in Andy Carroll.
Having faced the Liverpool hitman in both training and the Premier League, Cahill is looking forward to lining up alongside him on Tuesday and believes he has all the attributes to be a success at international level.
"He's physical, and definitely a handful in the way he plays," said Cahill.
"He's got a physical presence, he likes to back you in and hold the ball up, he's a real threat and he's proved it with the amount of goals he's scored this season.
"He doesn't look his age, not at all, he's a massive frame of a man and he has some nice touches. He's scored some great goals this season and it's going to be great experience for him against Ghana, he'll go out there and enjoy it. I'm sure he'll do well."
