Fabio happy but still seeks improvement

Manager's initial reaction after win over Bulgaria.

Fabio Capello said he was delighted with England’s performance during a 3-0 victory over Buglaria but still outlined several ways in which they could improve.

England manager Capello declared himself happy and satisfied with a victory that leaves England there points clear at the top of Group G after Montenegro lost in Wales. But that doesn’t mean they are the finished article just yet, he warned.

“It was important to win here. Bulgaria was in a good moment because they drew with Switzerland and away against Montenegro. It was not easy here. But we played a really good game,” said Capello. “I’m happy for the result and for the spirit of the team.

“I saw the players determined to help the midfielders, determined to help the defenders. And also the forwards and midfielders went forward – this is really good for the team. It’s really good to see that the players want to win and fight together.”

Capello was particularly pleased with two-goal Rooney who took his England tally to 28 goals and was outstanding.

“He was really good,” said the England boss. “He fought a lot, he ran a lot. He was the focus of the attack and his movement when he was without the ball was always important. He’s a leader on the pitch. But all the players played very well.”

England now now take on Wales at Wembley on Tuesday and Capello wants his players to keep on improving.

He said: “We’ve got players with a lot of quality, very good technically. But I think we can still improve.

“We need to press more, some movement without the ball we need to improve. All these players are really fast and they need to attack the space sometimes. When they get close to the box they are really dangerous but in some moments when the opponent has got the ball we need to improve.”
